The Lyric Theatre, also known as the Lyric Hammersmith is a theatre in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The venue, also known as the Lyric Hammersmith, is considered to be one of the city’s major theatres for original productions. It is well known for its quality contemporary theatre, and its dedication to nurturing the creativity of the younger generation.

The theatre was originally established as music hall in 1888 on Bradmore Grove. The success it endured as an entertainment venue led to its reconstructed enlargement on the same site, firstly in 1890 and then five years later by the famous theatre architect, Frank Matcham. The second of these re-openings saw it renamed to the New Lyric Opera House. In 1966, the theatre was due to be closed and demolished, however, a successful campaign resulted in the salvage of the auditorium, which was dismantled and re-installed under a new modern exterior on its current site on King Street. The relocated theatre opened in 1979, a short distance from the former Bradmore Grove site.

The Lyric Hammersmith has two main performance areas: The Main House, which is the reconstructed 19th-century auditorium with a capacity of 550, and the more intimate Studio which seats 120 people. The larger of the spaces hosts large original productions and the smaller houses productions by newer companies. The Lyric Theatre is a highly successful venue which was awarded with an Olivier Award in 2011.
