The Unicorn Theatre offers a unique focus to the West End scene as one of the UK’s leading theatres for young audiences. It produces a diverse and exciting programme throughout the year for children aged between 6 months and 18 years old. The Unicorn designs its work to engage with all children through its large range of artistic disciplines. Its aim is to connect artists and audiences through work that is honest, refreshing and has an international focus.

The group was founded in 1947 and was based in the Arts Theatre. During this time, it held a programme of afternoon shows for children and evening shows produced by Arts Theatre’s West End Productions. In 2005, the company opened the doors to its purpose-built theatre designed by Keith Williams. This venue is located on Tooley Street in London Bridge and contains two theatres, an education studio and a rehearsal space. The larger of the theatres has a capacity of 290 seats, and the more intimate studio theatre has a capacity of 100.

The theatre presents and tours to around 80,000 children, parents and carers every year, taking a catalogue of twenty shows with them. Both home and abroad the theatre works extensively with schools and their communities to encourage children from all cultures to discuss art and the world around them.
