The Harold Pinter Theatre is a West End venue named after the late Nobel Prize Winner in 2011, acknowledging his seminal contribution to theatre. It is best known for hosting a mix of new plays and revivals of classic works – both Pinter’s and beyond.

In 1891, the theatre originally opened as the Royal Comedy Theatre and gained its reputation when CB Cochran and André Charlot put on their famous review shows during the First World War.

The theatre also played a vital role in overturning the censorship of scripts under the Theatres Act 1843 when the producer, Anthony Field, established the New Watergate Club in 1956. This led to the eventual revocation of the law in 1968.

The theatre’s support of new and exciting work has continued into their role as the host location for a number of UK premieres including Arthur Miller’s A View From The Bridge and Tennessee Williams’ Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

In recent years the theatre has held successful revivals of the theatre’s namesake including, The Homecoming, No Man’s Land, Moonlight, The Hothouse and The Caretaker. This has continued into the Pinter At The Pinter season, which saw world-class performers, creatives and associates of Pinter staging all twenty of Pinter’s short plays.
