With each album, Oldfield expanded on the incredible themes and theatrical variations he first composed at just 17 years old, continually innovating and pushing boundaries. Robin Smith , the Grammy-nominated Musical Director of the show, was completely mesmerised by Tubular Bells the moment he heard it. He studied Composition at the Royal College of Music, spent several years touring the world as a piano player, and was the principal pianist of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra before meeting Mike Oldfield over 30 years ago. For over 25 years, this much-loved Cornish collective has been bound together by lifelong friendship, shared experience, and a deep-rooted passion for traditional sea shanties. The group originally came together on the Platt Harbour in Port Isaac, singing songs passed down through generations to raise money for local charities and celebrate their coastal heritage.

What began as an informal gathering of working fishermen has since grown into one of the UK’s most unexpected and inspiring musical success stories. In 2010, they signed a major record deal, and their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends went Gold, making them the first traditional folk act to land a UK Top Ten album. Since then, they’ve been the subject of an ITV documentary, released hit albums One and All (2013), Proper Job (2015) and Sole Mates (2018), and played to hundreds of thousands of fans at home and abroad.

With their rich harmonies, humour, and strong sense of community, Fisherman’s Friends continue to bring the spirit of Cornwall to every stage they play.

Released in 1987, Popped In Souled Out was the album that introduced Wet Wet Wet to not only a national audience, but a global one too.

It reached No.1 on the UK Albums Chart and featured the hit singles “Wishing I Was Lucky”, “Sweet Little Mystery”, “Angel Eyes” and “Temptation”. The record went multi-platinum in the UK and established the band as one of the key British acts of the late 1980s, whilst breaking into the Billboard Charts in the USA.

The band will be perform songs from Popped In Souled Out alongside a catalogue of beloved hits spanning their remarkable career, with a little help from their friend Roachford. The show will celebrate both where it all began, as well as what followed.

The band today features founding member Graeme Clark, long-standing guitarist Graeme Duffin, and lead vocalist Kevin Simm. Together, they continue to perform the songs that first made their name while introducing them to new audiences.
