In its heyday New Brighton was the accepted rendezvous for theatre goers and with seven theatres, was rich in live entertainment. From the 1890s to the outbreak of World War Two and shortly afterwards, hundreds of top stars trod the boards and enthusiastic audiences filled the seats of The Tivoli, Winter Gardens, Tower Theatre, Pier Pavilion, Palace Theatre and the Victoria Gardens Pavilion. Over the years these wonderful theatres, one by one, shut their doors. In 2006 the Floral was facing a similar fate. Many famous artists have appeared at the theatre, including: Ken Dodd, Sir Harry Seacombe, Max Bygraves, George Melly, Tommy Cooper, Sir Norman Wisdom, Matt Munro, Tommy Trinder, Diana Dors, Frankie Howerd, Cilla Black and Petula Clark, as well as international stars such as Jack Jones, Howard Keel, Ben E King and Geno Washington. Determined to 'keep the dream alive', the theatre management embarked on an ambitious development campaign that has revived this majestic venue to her former glory. Though she may look different to when she opened her doors in 1913, the magic and charm that has prevailed over nearly a century is evident as you walk through the new doors. Rebuilt in 2008 as part of an exciting regeneration programme for 'Brand New Brighton', the Floral is living proof of the power of live entertainment in uniting communities through culture. 2015 was an exciting year for the venue. As well as sell-out shows from international acts such as Russell Watson, John Bishop, Marc Almond and Nathan Carter, two exclusive events held for Cunard’s Three Queens visit proved to be the hottest tickets in town. Demand for the Three Queens events was only matched by that of Tim Vine’s latest tour, with the show selling out quicker than Tim’s infamous one-liners. 2016 started with more sell-out shows from The Drifters, The Faulty Towers Dining Experience and All Stars Wrestling, followed by the opening of Collabro's UK Tour in February. For Easter the theatre presented a very busy week of the first UK tour of David Walliams' Gangsta Granny, then in May audiences were blown away by Joe McElderry's performance as the eponymous hero in Bill Kenwright's production of Joseph. In 2016 the over 100 front of house volunteers who make up The Floral Ambassadors won Volunteer Team of the Year at the Wirral Tourism Awards and in July the venue was awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for the second year running.
