LOLA is a short, sharp comedy festival in London with the spirit of LA poured over it: works-in-progress, new writing, cabaret, storytelling, live masterclasses, and a run of you-had-to-be-there one-off events. Like London, Los Angeles has never taken itself entirely seriously. Both cities delight in a particular form of madcap irreverence that pervades the sensibilities of artists and audiences alike and which LOLA celebrates in earnest. The varied programme runs from the free-wheeling to the star-studded. Veteran US actor, writer, and coach Michael Kostroff (The Wire, The Producers, and fresh from Broadway's Dog Day Afternoon) makes his London stage debut with a four-session Theatre Lab, opening with his cult AUDITION PSYCH masterclass and widening across the week, with Sandra Tsing Loh, into sessions on solo performance, science communication, and comic acting. Brooke Adams (Days of Heaven, The Dead Zone) and Tony Shalhoub (Monk, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), married 37 years, share an evening of Hollywood tales. Melanie Mayron (Thirtysomething, Girlfriends), Sandra Tsing Loh, and Julian Fleisher bring their sold-out Los Angeles pyjama party Grief Bacon to London. And in the festival's closing event, stage and screen legend Stockard Channing (Six Degrees of Separation, Grease, The West Wing) joins Adams and Mayron for the first ever ‘cocktail concert’ staging of Loh's hit comedy Madwomen of the West.
