Theatre of the Month > Milton Keynes Theatre

Theatre of the Month > Milton Keynes Theatre
As you may not know, Milton Keynes has been heralded the UK’s newest and most dynamic city due to its growing population and over 10,000 businesses making their homes in the popular commuter area. And at the heart of this is Milton Keynes Theatre - a theatre and entertainment centre of excellence in the region and part of the Ambassador Theatre Group, the world’s number-one live theatre company.

And what a theatre it is!

The direct result of an impassioned 25 year campaign led by the people of Milton Keynes, the theatre today stands tall in the UK as a leader in live theatre, with 50 weeks of programming attracting in excess of 400,000 people to enjoy over 400 performances including leading West End musicals such as Wicked and Phantom of the Opera, English National Ballet, the National Theatre, Glyndebourne Opera, and the very best of all shows touring the UK – perfect for all ages to enjoy!

Our 1438 seat auditorium, with extremely comfortable seats designed to enhance every performance, includes a unique fully retracting ceiling that provides a more intimate viewing experience. There are seven easy-access bars positioned across each of the four levels, so refreshments and treats are never far from reach. And all our bars are connected through airy, light-filled foyers where 3,000m2 of glass – the equivalent to 12 tennis courts – creates the perfect meeting place before, during and after each performance.

Like every great theatre, we also offer an efficient pre-ordering service for interval drinks, and now there is the additional benefit of our free in-seat delivery service, Ordertorium. Simply order through the app or with a seat-back menu in the auditorium.

If you’re looking to entertain friends, family or clients for a special occasion, take a look at our Ambassador Lounge. It’s the ideal place to pamper yourself and guests or indulge a loved one in luxury, with a range of packages to suit all your needs. For a quick bite to eat pre-show, our new Marlborough Gate Bistro offers a stylish dining experience and delicious dishes from our express menu or even a three course meal before curtain up.

The coming months will see our stage jam packed with old and new favourites alike; Gareth Gates brings legendary 80’s musical sensation Footloose in the re-mastered show sure to get your toes tapping, and the feel good celebration of soul, The Commitments, direct from a record-breaking run in the West End kicks off November. Dance phenomenon Cats also makes a welcome return to Milton Keynes following it’s sell out run at the London Palladium.  Make sure you don’t miss the Jellicle ball and let the memory live again!

Escape to a world of opera with Glyndebourne who this year bring Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Mozart’s Don Giovanni, with the chance to go ‘Behind The Curtain’ with an exploration of opera designed for first time opera goers of aficionado’s who’d just like to get to know opera a little better!

Prior to the West End, drama fans can also look forward to Theatre Royal Bath productions Relatively Speaking as Robert Powell and Liza Goddard take to the stage in Alan Ayckbourn’s wonderful, funny and charmingly British play. While the whole family can enjoy a little bit of seasonal magic from English National Ballet as over 100 dancers and musicians bring Nutcracker to life for an unforgettable Christmas treat.

And it wouldn’t be Christmas without a traditional family pantomime, and this year we have a knapsack full of festive cheer as Dick Whittington and his feline companion Tommy come to Milton Keynes in search of their fortune. Starring Eastender’s Samantha Womack as the evil Queen Rat and Loose Women and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here winner Stacey Solomon as Fairy Bowbells, it’s sure to be the Purrr-fect pantomime.

A peep into 2017 you can also book for Broadway’s award-winning comedy Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peter James’ thrilling new play Not Dead Enough, Matthew Bourne’s magical new adaptation of The Red Shoes, the iconic Funny Girl direct from the West End starring Sheridan Smith, the all new production of Dirty Dancing. An MK debut of smash-hit show MAMMA MIA! and three fantastic shows from the National Theatre, Jane Eyre and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and Michael Morpurgo’s modern classic, War Horse in 2018.
