From:29-01-2022
To:29-01-2022
+ More Info +

The decade where Shaparak left an important part of her brain somewhere in a field in Hampshire…

From indie discos to unflattering crop tops…a trip down memory lane to the decade where ‘kinky’ was nurse roleplay and whipped cream, and Shaparak found herself flying about London with hope in her heart, a tenner in her pocket and spare knickers in her handbag. How does the decade of binge drinking and walks of shame look now without snakebite and black tinted specs?

Mark Watson: This Can’t Be It
From:06-02-2022
To:02-02-2022
+ More Info +

We've all had some pondering to do about the fragility of life recently, but don't worry, skinny national treasure Mark Watson has it covered. At 41, he's halfway through his days on earth, according to the life expectancy calculator app he paid £1.49 for. That life is in the best shape in living memory... but one problem remains, and it really is a huge one.

Spiritual enquiry meets high-octane observational comedy as the 'Taskmaster' survivor, multi-award-winner and "No More Jockeys" cult leader attempts to cram a couple of years of pathological overthinking into an evening of stand-up. Maybe we'll even solve the huge problem. Doubt it, though.

Luke Kempner: Macho Macho Man

To:03-02-2022
+ More Info +

Star of Spitting Image, Steph’s Packed Lunch and with over 10 million views of his online videos, Luke Kempner is one of the UK’s hottest mimics and stand-up comics. With a hilariously razor sharp roster of contemporary impressions ranging from Piers Morgan and Bojo to Ru Paul, Luke has become a household name and is bringing his highly anticipated brand-new show, Macho Macho Man on the road.

Luke is a Macho Macho Man. He came up with the title whilst listening to his Les Mis album for the 28,000th time. Luke tries to work out what masculinity really means with the help of Louis Theroux, the cast of Downton Abbey and even Jürgen Klopp. Luke struggles to fit in, between turning up to a dance audition in football boots to falling in love with a “cool guy” that sits in the row in front of him at the football. Will Luke ever become the Macho Macho Man he dreams of?

From:27-04-2022
To:27-04-2022
+ More Info +

There is darkness in the poetry of ‘Ultimate Success Today’,Protomartyr’s fifth album. The theme of things ending, above all human existence, is present and reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’.

‘Day Without End’, the first song, sets the tone for the whole album.“This is the dawning of the day without end / when fear steps into light”.The music here sounds delicate, airy and at the same time carried by an insistent, light, metallic drum part by Alex Leonard and a punctuating bass line by Scott Davidson.

The musicians that joined the band for these recordings are Jemeel Moondoc (Alto Sax), Izaak Mills (bass clarinet, sax, flute), Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello) and Nandi Plunkett (vocals). They were encouraged to bring in ideas of their own, making this a collaborative and open work. These wind and string instruments add richness to every song.

The 300 seat theatre also comfortably hosts candle-lit cabaret style events and standing gigs.

The Y Theatre has established itself as one of the main venues in the city for comedy and has hosted many well known names from around the world. Performers such as Sarah Millican, Tim Minchin, Rachel Parris, John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Grace Petrie, Michael McIntyre, and Ardal O’Hanlon have taken to the Stage and every February The Y Theatre plays a major role as a busy venue during the Leicester Comedy Festival, resulting in being awarded the Lifetime Contribution Award in 2018.

Owned by Leicester YMCA, a charity supporting young people experiencing homelessness, the local community is at the core of the Theatre's values. From local amateur groups to professional artists, The Y Theatre is always looking for ways to strengthen the arts in Leicester.
