+ More Info +

All is going well as Sir Henry Angkatell gathers family and friends for a long weekend at his grand rural estate - until a body is found in the garden room.

The stage is set for a detective tale full of intrigue, with everyone under suspicion. Can tough-talking Inspector Colquhoun crack the case before it’s too late?

Includes a socially-distanced performance on Tuesday 18th January 2022.

Mike Leigh’s cult classic of middle-class suburban values offers a relentlessly uncomfortable yet hilarious look at strained relationships and awkward social situations.

So come on in, pull up a chair, and let hostess-from-hell Beverly offer you a “cheesy pineapple thing” while she humiliates her hapless husband Laurence, all to a soundtrack by Demis Roussos.

Includes a socially-distanced performance on Tuesday 8th February 2022

The People's Theatre is the leading non-professional theatre company in the North of England and one of the largest and oldest established in the country.

The People's stages up to fourteen productions a year in their 500-seat main auditorium and in their flexible studio space. The People's Theatre recently completed a £1.6 million redevelopment project which transformed the frontage, foyer and bar and allowed them to build the new Studio Theatre. The venue is now fully accessible for wheelchair and mobility restricted users.

As a genuine community theatre, the People's Theatre is able to give people from all walks of life the experience of participating in all aspects of theatre.

Every show they do is produced entirely by their members - on stage, backstage and front of house. The Theatre takes great pride in working to professional standards and many members have gone on work in the professional theatre. For enquiries on how to join the People's, please visit peoplestheatre.co.uk/get-involved.

In addition to plays, their Foyer Gallery displays a range of exhibitions by established and emerging artists and is supported by the Biscuit Factory.
