Autumn 2018 – Solo Tour

It was 1973 when Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford first formed the band that would that would see them dubbed ‘The New Lennon and McCartney’. 45 years later they continue to tour in Squeeze, together as a duo, or as solo performers.

Glenn Tilbrooks solo shows have continued to rise in popularity with his 2016 tour selling out all but a couple of shows. The reasons for this are a combination of a consummately professional, yet distinctly personal performance, the familiarity of those wonderful Squeeze songs – both new and old, and the occasional spontaneous interpretation of a respected song by another artist.

Aneurin Bevan and Jennie Lee were comrades and flatmates who together fought and preached for socialism as they saw it; he the Tredegar firebrand on the Labour backbenches, she the miner’s daughter from Fife who became a Socialist MP before she was old enough to vote.

Then they were married; he deeply in love with her; she on the rebound from a tragic love affair. Both of them were loved and loathed by their fellow MP’s; he the Bollinger Bolshevik; she his Lady Macbeth, the dark angel at his shoulder. Life together unfolded through the desolate war years, the trials of founding the NHS, and the vicious internal feuds of the 1950’s. But as it did so their love deepened and matured. This is the story of a partnership that became one of the outstanding political marriages of the twentieth century. .

Legendary mountaineers Doug Scott CBE and Paul 'Tut' Braithwaite give a fascinating and often humorous insight into how their colourful careers developed from early youth - including temporary careers teaching geography (Doug) and painting and decorating (Paul) and led them to join Chris Bonington’s expedition in 1975.

Doug Scott and Dougal Haston were first to climb Everest by its massive south-west face but were also the first Britons to stand on the summit. As darkness fell on the descent they scraped a small cave in the snow 100 metres below the summit and survived the highest bivouac ever – without bottled oxygen, sleeping bags and, as it turned out, frostbite.

Doug will also be signing copies of award-winning Up And About, volume 1 of his autobiography, and ‘The Ogre- Biography of a mountain and the dramatic story of the first ascent’
