Hallé Orchestra
From:10-05-2024
To:10-05-2024
+ More Info +

As Sir Mark Elder’s tenure as Hallé Music Director (which began in 2000) reaches its grand finale, our programme acknowledges a core Hallé tradition of English music.
He is joined - as he was in his first season as the orchestra’s Music Director - by Sir Stephen Hough, an undisputed 'keyboard colossus' (The Guardian) who performs Brahms’ monumental First Piano Concerto.

Beginning life as a sonata for two pianos, Brahms’ composition grew in ambition over several years. The final work is an absolute tour de force, which is now one of the best-loved and most frequently performed piano concertos in the world.

This celebration culminates with Butterworth’s orchestral rhapsody A Shropshire Lad, his heartfelt postlude to his songs setting A.E. Housman’s poems, and Elgar’s affectionate Enigma Variations.

These masterly vignettes of Elgar’s 'friends pictured within' is the work that best encapsulates Sir Mark’s magnificent legacy with the Hallé.

John Lydon: I Could be Wrong, I Could be Right

To:10-05-2024
+ More Info +

Legend and icon John Lydon will talk about how he sees life, along with his unique and extraordinary career, during a one-off 45-date UK tour.
Lydon will reflect on the Sex Pistols, Public Image Limited (PiL), his art and his life’s story during informal evenings of conversation and audience questions.

An icon, a revolutionary and an immortal, as the frontman and lyricist of the Sex Pistols, Johnny Rotten changed the face of music and sparked a cultural revolution.

He caused an earthquake which transformed music for good. During his remarkable years in Public Image Ltd he consistently pushed back the boundaries and still continues to challenge and thrive.

As a writer, Lydon wrote two best-selling volumes of memoir, the excoriating Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs and the ridiculously entertaining and uncompromising, Anger Is An Energy: My Life Uncensored.

Now he is embarking on a spoken word tour, where fans will get to hear his stories up-close-and-personal.

What if there was another take on the Trojan War, an untold breathtaking adventure you'd never heard before?
Enter Medusa. She was there.

Mighty swords. Giant horse-sculptures filled with men. But as the war raged on, Medusa’s petrifying gaze focused on three extraordinary women who might just hold the key to her ultimate hope.

Beautiful Evil Things is a high-energy one-woman show from Ad Infinitum, combining physical storytelling with cut-throat wit.

Coming hot on the heels of their multi award-winning hit Odyssey, this acerbically comic, thrilling and poignant show “brings tears to your eyes and raises your heart rate” - The Guardian.

Ruby Wax: I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was
From:29-06-2024
To:29-06-2024
+ More Info +

After a complete sell-out first run in 2023, Ruby Wax's rawest, darkest, funniest and most compelling stage show yet announces brand new dates for 2024, thanks to enormous demand.

“The original idea behind this show was based on the extreme journeys that I wanted to take in order to find an antidote to living a frazzled life. Along the way I wanted to find meaning, peace, happiness – the stuff we’re all chasing. However, after some transcendent experiences, I ended up in a mental institution.
Obviously, I didn’t find what I was looking for.”

‘I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was’ is Ruby’s first tour show in four years following her critically acclaimed, sell-out tour, ‘How To Be Human’.

One of the largest multi-artform venues in the UK, Warwick Arts Centre delivers a high quality, engaging, and diverse programme of performing and visual arts, concerts, films, festivals, education and learning activities, and special events - all presented in world-class venues and spaces.

Since opening in 1974, the venue - at the heart of Coventry's University of Warwick campus - has been a distinctive and special place, an important resource for both the arts and audiences in the region, as well as a significant force in national and international arts networks.

A recent transformation, the biggest in the arts centre's history, has seen the venue significantly expanded and upgraded, with a spacious new foyer, three state-of-the-art cinema screens, and a remodelled contemporary art space, the Mead Gallery.
