Access Info

Trinity Arts Centre was formerly known as the Holy Trinity Church up until the early 1970’s, before it was converted into the arts centre you see today. It was designed by renowned church architect, Thomas Johnson of Lichfield, with the first stone being laid in 1841 and later opening for public worship in 1843.

The church served the growing parish of Gainsborough providing schooling for young people and one of its vicars was the original founder of the Gainsborough Holy Trinity Football Club, which still goes strong today.

The church was decommissioned by the Church of England in the 1970’s and sat abandoned and derelict for some time after. This was until a group of enthusiastic volunteers, who went by the group name ‘Project 77’, set about campaigning to transform the building into a thriving arts centre.

Trinity Arts Centre was born and opened its doors in 1984.
