This show is all about Dave’s life in ….. well…. a northern town, so no surprise there.

From his working-class childhood in the small, terraced houses round the mills in Bolton through passing his 11 Plus and going to grammar school with an ambition to be a doctor which was thwarted just after his “O” levels. Instead, at 16 getting a job in the Pathology department at Bolton General Hospital and working there for 32 years ultimately as Chief Biomedical Scientist in Haematology before throwing caution to the wind and leaving to pursue a career in comedy, as you do!
He will tell how he turned his microscope off for the last time on October 13th, 2000, and two weeks later found himself in a car park only half a mile down the road singing Walking on Sunshine in the pouring rain on a makeshift stage dressed as a giant berry.
He wondered at that moment if he’d made the right decision. As it turns out, he had.

We’re very pleased to welcome the Czech Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra for their first visit to St George’s Hall, led by one of Europe’s most highly regarded conductors, Daniel Raiskin, whose collaboration with the orchestra has developed their very considerable reputation.
In a programme of great favourites, one of the UK’s most highly regarded violinists Chloë Hanslip, will perform Bruch’s wonderfully romantic Violin Concerto No. 1. The second half will be a definitive performance of Dvorák’s ever popular Symphony No. 9 From the New World which features the famous theme from the 1970’s Hovis bread advert. The programme opens with a piece by another Czech composer, Janacek, the enchanting Prelude & Pantomime from his opera the Cunning Little Vixen.

Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull are one of the world's most successful and enduring Progressive Rock bands.
Tull recorded with the original lineup of Anderson, Cornick, Bunker and Abrahams and released their first album This Was (1968) on the Island Records label later that year. After the departure of Mick Abrahams and with new guitarist Martin Barre, another thirty or so musicians would form the ranks over the decades, some staying for a few months; some for the longer haul.
The Jethro Tull brand has continued to this day and as writer, producer, flautist, vocalist and occasional guitarist, Anderson performs with the band typically 50 – 60 shows each year in many countries of the world.
This tour will feature examples from the full Tull catalogue from 1968 up to the 2025 release, Curious Ruminant.
Ian Anderson will be accompanied by long-standing Tull band musicians David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (keyboards), Scott Hammond (drums) and new boy Jack Clark (guitar). The show will be enhanced by full scale video throughout.
