There are a limited number of pay-and-display bays in the roads behind the theatre, namely Latimer Road, South Park Road, Bridges Road, Dudley Road and Kings Road. However, finding a space can be difficult, especially on Saturdays. Also note that many of the meters on these roads have a two hour limit, which may not suffice for certain shows in the Main Theatre. Alternative car parking is available in Wimbledon Town Centre, including The Broadway (next to New Wimbledon Theatre), Queens Road, St George’s Road, Hartfield Road and Hartfield Crescent.

Cafe

We love healthy food at the Polka Café and have a wide selection of sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, cupcakes, fruit, treats and drinks which are all delicious and prepared fresh each day, on the premises. Why not come and visit us beforehand, during the interval or even after your show! Kids and adults are also welcome to visit the Polka Café when you haven’t got tickets for a show and who can blame you, the food is delicious! Café staff will be happy to assist in warming baby food.

The Polka Theatre is a very special venue, being one of the few in the UK that is dedicated exclusively to children. The group behind the theatre’s primary goal is to entertain and inspire young audiences with world-class theatre and performance arts. The organisation began in 1967 as a touring company under the Artistic Directorship of Richard Gill and settled two years later in its current building in Wimbledon.

The Polka aims to keep its work fresh and relevant through creative programming, tailoring its content to specific age categories. This approach led to the repertoire of the theatre expanding to theatre for babies, and teen theatre in 2003.

Young audiences can experience new plays, dynamic performers, resonant subjects and inventive adaptations of popular stories in the Polka Theatre’s two stages, the Adventure Theatre and the Main Stage.
Every year, over 90,000 children attend productions at the Polka to engage with fun and exciting theatre, often for the first time. This dedicated and bespoke venue has hosted 3.5 million visitors in its forty-year history, going some way to prove its commitment to inspiring young audiences.
