The London Coliseum is a major opera and performing arts venue and the largest capacity theatre in London’s West End, with 2359 seats. Frank Matcham built the theatre for the theatrical impresario Sir Oswald Stoll and had the ambition of it being the largest and finest "People’s palace of entertainment" of the age. The inaugural performance was a variety bill on 24 December 1904. Today the London Coliseum is home to English National Opera (ENO) and stages a wide variety of ENO operas, musicals, ballets and concerts, welcoming half a million visitors annually. The theatre offers guided tours throughout the year showing the history and architectural detail of this grand theatre. The theatre also houses a restaurant, a gift shop and a coffee shop.
