John Kearns: The Varnishing Days
From:19-05-2024
To:19-05-2024
+ More Info +

The Varnishing Days is the heart-stopping, glasses-dropping, hard-rocking, wig-shaking, levothyroxine-taking, knee-knocking, boot-licking, justifying, teeth rattling, digressing new show from stand up comedian to the stars John Kearns.
Go silent as I walk on! Acknowledge when something funny happens! Leave discussing dinner plans! Others will be implicated. Points will be circled and missed.

Hell, it’s a man trying his best! When I visit your town dogs will start barking, as will clergy. Your microwave will go haywire. The lights in your vestibule will flicker and the Bank of England will nervously look at interest rates.

On the day I write this, the pound has hit an all time low against the dollar. Mark my words. This show will break that record again and again and again.

Mary Beard: Emperor of Rome
From:06-07-2024
To:06-07-2024
+ More Info +

Spend a fascinating evening with renowned classicist and historian, Mary Beard.
Well known from television, here she shines the spotlight on the emperors who ruled the Roman empire, from the well known Julius Caesar (assassinated 44 BCE) to the almost unknown Alexander Severus (assassinated 235 CE).

Taking the audience beyond the hype of politics, power and succession and into the heart of the palace corridors, these exclusive events promise a revolutionary approach to an apparently familiar subject.

Mary will uncover the facts and fiction of these rulers, asking what they did and why, and how we have got such a lurid view of them. Through the thrilling themes of autocracy, corruption, and conspiracy – and also the day-to-day practicalities of the emperors’ lives (who did the cooking, or took the dictation?) – she will explore how they managed a huge empire and how they faced their subjects (and vice versa).

Not about everything obviously, but they must concede that on teen drinking and being “forced” to go on holiday, Keyworth Sr probably had some solid points.
